The 9U Dragons - Simpson played in the Texas State Minors Tournament over the Memorial Day weekend and came away with a 2nd place finish. After losing one and tying one during pool play on Saturday, the Dragons won 3 straight games to reach their 3rd straight tournament championship game. The tournament was delayed by rain during pool play that pushed the championship game starting time back to 10:30 on Sunday night. The elimination round started with the Dragons beating the Saginaw Silverbacks by a score of 7-1. Carson Andersen pitched 4 innings to get the win while giving up only 2 hits and striking out 6. Hayden Lee knocked in 2 runs to lead a balance hitting attack. In the second game of the day the Dragons beat the Keller Knights by a score of 7-6. Brock Zimmer and Spencer Simpson combined for 3 hits, 4 runs, and 3 RBI to lead the offense. Zimmer was the winning pitcher and Simpson came on the get the last out for a save. In the semi-final matchup against the Keller Aces, Simpson, Zimmer, and Lee combined for 4 hits, 3 runs, and 5 RBI as the Dragons beat the Aces 10-8. Lee was the winning pitcher as he gave up only 1 earned run and Simpson came on in relief to get the final 2 outs and his second save of the day. The Dragons then played against the Texas Blackhawks in a rematch of a pool play game. The Blackhawks used an 8 run bottom of the 4th inning to put away the Dragons by a score of 10-1. The Dragons only run came in the first inning as Todd Mallory doubled and scored on a ground out. The Dragons season record now stands at 25-13-1 as they open pool play in the Colleyville Trophy Hunter's Tournament this weekend.
