The 9U Dragons-Simpson won the Colleyville Trophy Hunters Tournament the weekend of June 1-2, 2013.  The team completed a perfect 5-0 record in the tournament with a 10-0 win in the Championship game!  Durning pool play the Dragons began the tournament with a 8-6 victory over DFW Express-Garcia.  Nolan Wilson led the offense by driving in a pair of runs while Hayden Lee was the winning pitcher.  The Dragons completed pool play with a 17-2 win over DFW Express-Wiggins.  Dragons pitchers Todd Mallory and Matt Dembiec combined to throw a no-hitter while Brock Zimmer had 3 hits and 3 runs scored.  Jack LaBarge had 2 hits and Tanner Sumer added 3 RBI's to lead a strong 15 hit attack.  On Sunday, the elimination round started with the two 9U Dragons teams facing each other.  Dragons-Simpson battled back from a 5 run deficit and scored a run in their final at bat to win 9-8 over Dragons-DC.  LaBarge led off the final inning with a 2B and Carson Andersen followed with a bunt single.  Mallory then ended the game with a sac fly that scored LaBarge and sent the team on to the next round.  Zimmer came on in relief to earn the win.  In the semi-finals, the Dragons faced the Grapevine Stampede and again came from behind to win 8-7.  Andersen, Lee, and Sumer combined for 5 hits, 3 runs, and 4 RBI's to lead the comeback.  Zimmer again came on in relief to pick up the pitching victory.  Defense also played a key role in the comeback as the Dragons turned 2 double plays to end Grapevine scoring threats.  A line drive to Nolan Wilson in RF with a great throw to SS Spencer Simpson doubled up a Grapevine runner to end the 2nd inning and then another one hit to 2B was caught by Will Grubbs and again thrown to Simpson to end the 3rd inning.  In the Championship game, the Dragons again played against the DFW Express-Wiggins team.  The Dragons saved their best game of the day for the last one, as a total team effort led to a 10-0 victory!  Spencer Simpson pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout and Hayden Lee had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs to spark the win.  Grubbs, Wilson, and Cole Bedwell also drove in runs as the Dragons put the game away early with a 7 run first inning.  Carson Andersen made 2 diving catches in CF to keep the Express off the scoreboard.  Simpson only walked 1 batter and struck out only 2 as the defense played nearly flawless over the four inning game.  The Dragons record now stands at 30-13-1 for the year.  Next weekend they will head to Mansfield to play in the Big League Dreams event.
