(Recreation) All Star Program

Summer All Star Program:

(Ages 6-18) While and extension of our Recreational Program, summer tournament teams participate in a significantly more competitive environment than recreational league play. The focus is on introduction to tournament play and the season runs from mid-May through the end of June with 4-5 tournaments.  Each tournament teams play 2 pool games then on Sunday single elimination (up to 4 games).  Coaches are required to promote a learning environment focused on advanced skills and baseball strategies.  They are not required to rotate players during All Star competition.

  • We expect that 15% of our players will participate in this program.

Season:  Mid-May – July 1st

  • We attempt to keep rosters to a maximum of 11 players and therefore ask that no vacations are scheduled during the “Summer Ball” season in June.
  • 3 practices per week
  • All games are on weekends in tournament format:
    • 2 seed games Friday and/or Saturday
    • Single elimination brackets on Sunday (max 5 Sunday games)
    • Tournament games can be scheduled to start as early as 8:00AM and as late as 8:00PM on both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Travel throughout North Texas is required.  (approximately 50 mile radius)
  • Closed Draft.  Coaches pick their entire team, there is no serpentine draft

Eligibility and Registration:

  • Players must be on an active Dragon Youth Baseball Spring roster.
  • Should register online on the Dragon Youth Baseball Web site prior to evaluations.
  • Must attend the All Star Tryout or be granted an exception

DYB All Star Tournament Team Tryouts

DYB is one of the largest and fastest growing Youth Baseball Organizations in North Texas, with over 1,000 registered players. The sheer size of our organization has required that we hold a “tryout” for tournament team candidates. Each age group will hold a separate tryout.  Check the calendar for dates and times.

In order for your child to participate on a Summer All Star Tournament team, a parent must complete the separate DYB Tournament Team Application Registration.  Every player interested in playing summer tournament baseball must attend tryouts.

Applications submitted after tryouts will not be accepted, as team formulation, uniform ordering, and tournament scheduling will be in process.

Once tryouts have been completed, head coaches for each tournament team will be announced. The head coach will be responsible for picking in entirety, the 10 or 11 players to fill his or her roster. These selections will be based upon the evaluations completed during tryouts and from watching the players throughout the season.

Additional Details:

The numbers of teams are based on the number of applications received, tournament team coaches, tryout participants, and the general level of interest among our parents and players. We attempt to keep all rosters to a maximum of 11 players.  We strive to place all players on a team however there is no guarantee. Players will receive a refund if they do not end up on a team.

The Commitment:

Because of the competition at this level, tournament teams are often either playing games or practicing five to six days per week. On days the team is not playing games, you should assume the team may practice. This can create a problem if the athlete will be out-of-town or otherwise unavailable for more than a few days during the summer season.

Teams generally average 4-6 tournaments from Memorial Day weekend through the end of June with a minimum of 3 games per tournament.

Fees and expenses:

  • Registration is $300 per player.  This fee is non-refundable unless your player is not drafted.
  • There will be additional expenses for playing local tournaments, equipment, parties, etc.  A reasonable estimate of additional expenses about $300 per player including registration.
  • The total per player for summer All Star participation is approximately $500-$700
