Umpires

Overview / Information

Anyone interested in umpiring in Dragon Youth Baseball should contact our third-party coordinator, George Lannan.

Umpires are every bit as important to a positive youth baseball experience as are the players. Dragon Youth Baseball uses a third-party organization to manage/schedule our umpires but we seek to use local high school youth and adults as umpires where and when possible. A significant number of our umpires continue to work season after season, meaning we have limited need for new umpires at any given time. As we have fewer teams in the fall, we seldom have a need for new umpires at all in the second half of the calendar year.

  • The Dragon Youth Baseball board member responsible for umpires, Mike Sherill, is available to deal with any specific issues/complaints regarding any Dragon Youth baseball umpire.

Note to player parents:

Please remember that while our umpires are paid a minimal amount for their services, they are also volunteers and, in many cases, are sons and fathers (and in some cases daughters and mothers) from our own community. Our league rules encourage good sportsmanship when it comes to dealing with other parents, opposing players and coaches, and particularly umpires. If you have a concern with an umpire, please communicate that concern directly to your coach who is aware of the process by which any issue with an umpires is handled. Under no circumstances should any parent directly address or confront any umpire at any time as a result of actions/results on the field. Remember, umpires are human and make mistakes. If there is a disagreement over a rules interpretation, coaches and league officials know how to address those issues and parents do not need to involve themselves. Please practice good sportsmanship at all times.
