Youth Big Barrel, Senior League – what’s the difference?

According to Louisville Slugger the main difference is that the Youth bats are designed or players 8 and younger.  This is mostly due to perceived player ability, swing speed, ball contact, etc.  Choose what is best for your player.

How often should I purchase a new bat?

Depending on quality and the growth of a player generally players will outgrow bats before the bats require replacement.  That said if you suspect your bat is damaged, dented or rattles it should be replaced immediately for the safety of your player and those playing the game around him/her.

What size bat is right for my player?

Like gloves bats are a personal choice and depend on your player’s ability, height and weight.  The most important thing to consider when choosing a bat is the batter’s swing speed.  But lighter doesn’t always mean better.  If the bat is too light the player will not get the most from their swing so try a few sizes and weights before buying.  Some general bat sizing guidelines are as follows:
