League News

Here you will find informaiton relevant to the entire Association as well as links to your individual league and team pages.

Southlake Baseball Association follows PONY Youth Baseball and USSSA Rules.  For rules information please check the rules section of our site.  Using May 1st as the cutoff baseball ages for each league are:

  • BlastBall (ages 3-4)
  • Shetland League (ages 5–6)
  • Pinto League (7-8)
  • Mustang League (9–10)
  • Bronco League (11-12)
  • Pony League (13-14)
  • Colt League (15-16)
  • All Star - Summer Ball (Single A) (all tournament play)
  • Classic  (AA, AAA, Major)

Levels of play within each league:

  • Shetland, Pinto and Mustang teams are divided into Texas-Cactus and Grapefruit.
  • Bronco - depending in the nubmer of registered players offers either one level of play or Texas-Cactus and Grapefruit
  • Pony and Colt Divisions offer one level of play.

In Shetland, Pinto and Mustang, Texas-Cactus is focused on development of beginning and intermediate players and Grapefruit offers a higher level of competition for advanced players who have more baseball experience.   Any player seeking placement on a Grapefruit team must attend the appropriate Pinto or Mustang “Coach Look”.

It is common that a player who moves up from one league to the next may transition between Cactus and Grapefruit.  For example: Shetland Grapefuit to Pinto Cactus.  Since all leagues have an upper and lower age 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, etc. older players in that league having an extra year of experience and may be better prepared for the advanced competition.

Fall Baseball

Dragon Youth Baseball recreation program focuses on sharpening general baseball skills and fundamentals, while still allowing for competitive play. Because a baseball player's "baseball age" is determined by a May 1st cutoff many players transition to the next league in the fall.  Our Fall League provides an opportunity for players to transition into their new age group prior to the following year's Spring League. It's also great for those new to our program because of the leagues focus on fundamentals.  Each league are scheduled to play 10 games in the fall generally ending by mid-November.

Spring Baseball

Dragon Youth Baseball continues to focus on fundamentals during the spring season however friendly competition plays a part.  Each league is scheduled for 12 games concluding in May with either a single or double elimination tournament where trophies are awarded for 1st and 2nd place.  Spring is baseball season and therefore our association sees an influx in participation and talent.  Therefore, players in the spring are also eligible for selection to DYB Summer All Star travel teams.
